Thanksgiving Story I Have Who Has

Oh my, has it been a while since I've felt creative.  I have had a BUSY first quarter of school and finally have a day off because of conferences this week.  Leave it to me to use it as a "catch-up" day for school stuff and ideas that need to be put into motion!

We just started our Thanksgiving theme this week and I realized we didn't have a I HAVE WHO HAS for this theme.  The kids LOVE these games, and I thought this one would be good to make because it can be used to retell the story from England to Thanksgiving today.

You can find this HERE at my TPT store.

And on another note:  I have reached 1000 followers at my TPT store!  Wow!  I never thought that would happen.  As a big thank you for following my blog, Pinterest, Facebook, TN, and TPT, the first 5 people who comment with their email below will get this for FREE.  Let's see how many people actually check out my blog...this will be interesting!  If you aren't one of the first 5 people, thanks for stopping by anyway!

I'm also throwing a 20% off sale to celebrate this milestone at my TPT store.  Get everything 20% of Sunday, November 9th thru Wednesday, November 12th.

And Happy Thanksgiving!

Habitats I Have Who Has Game

You can always tell what I'm teaching about or going to be teaching about by reading my blog posts.  There's always something to update or revamp or change because you just want to do it a little different or better based on the students and needs of the kids you have in your class.

Today I created an "I Have Who Has" game to for the end of our Habitats unit that will be coming up in a few weeks.  I thought this would be a great review of all the habitats and a few of the items in found in each of the habitats.  This game includes cards for these words:

  • desert, mountain, forest, ocean, grassland, Arctic, Antarctic, wetland, ocean, tree, water, sea shell, sand dollar, ice berg, sand dune, waterfall, butterfly, volcano, blizzard, lily pad, cactus, cattail, tumbleweed, rain, igloo, snow, hurricane

Directions:
Pass out a card to each student.  Remind students they need to be GOOD listeners to listen for their clue.  Select a student to be the “start” card.  The student reads their card aloud.  When they hear the name for the picture card they have, they read aloud their card.  The game makes a complete circle to the “start” card.

If you like the clip art used in this set, check out my habitats digital clip art doodles available at my TPT store.

I would LOVE your feedback!

You can find this HERE at my TPT store.

Continents and Oceans I Have Who Has Game

Well, I decided to make the Continents and Oceans I Have Who Has Game after making the one for Space.  I love playing what I call "circle" games (it seems like everyone else in the world calls them "I Have Who Has" games).  I call them circle games because they make a complete circle and go back to the start card if they were read correctly.

I used the words from the "My World World Wall" pocket chart cards for this game.  I figured it would be good to have the words displayed in the pocket chart for students to refer to.  I also used the same picture clue.

This game includes cards for:
7 continents
5 oceans
North and South Pole
equator
globe
Earth
compass rose
world map
ocean water
continents

You can find this game HERE at my TPT store.

If you like the "My World Doodles" digital clip art used in this set it is available at my TPT, too.

Space "I Have Who Has" Game

This must be my favorite time of year to teach Social Studies and Science because my brain goes crazy as I'm teaching it coming up with news things to make!  Last night I put together an "I Have Who Has" game for the Space theme we just got done with.  I guess I'll use it next year or possibly as a filler for a review if we have down time...Which makes me think about making one for our current Continents and Ocean theme.

You can find this HERE at my TPT store. It includes all the words include in my Space and Planets Word Wall card set that I also have available at my store.

Short Vowel Circle Games

We finally got the short vowel (CVC words) circle games merged together in one file so if you are interested in purchasing those games as a complete set of 5 games you can find them at our TPT store HERE

If you don't know what a "circle game" is, you might have heard it called an "I Have...Who Has?" game.  Each student gets a card or cards and has to listen for, then read aloud the word in green.  They then have to decode the word in read to ask who has that word.  The game goes ina complete circle until all cards are used.

We created these for each week that we introduce a new sound.  We made the entire set of games so that each week, the games only include sounds that we have covered in our sequential phonics program that we put together using The Language Tool Kit and one of our favorite instructor teachers, Cathy Angel, who taught classes called Making Reading Heavenly and Tools For Reading and Spelling Success.  Our whole phonics program is based on these two ideas.

Here is an overview of what the games looks like:

Sight Word Circle Games

A few years back we created some class "I have __.  Who has __?" circle games for the Dolch PP, Primer, and 1st grade words.  The words that the student has to LISTEN for and READ are in green and the word they have to SOUND OUT and ask for is in red.  Once students get a bit more independent at reading these words, we use them in small group literacy centers.

See pictures below for what the games look like.  You can get these games from our TPT store for FREE by clicking on the links below.
