After teaching about healthy habits and what you need to do to take care of your body, have your students write facts they remember. Use as a responsive writing after teaching a topic or an end of the unit assessment book. Picture labels will help your young students as they write.

Photo copy on transparencies and have students generate facts as a whole group or display on your optima or in a smart board file.

Was working on this word wall project for our Healthy Habits unit this January and I never got it completed until the unit was over...so I guess I'll have it ready for next year at this time!

This word wall card set includes these words:
  • tooth, cavity, toothbrush, toothpaste, tooth fairy, floss, teeth, dentist, mouth, tongue, rinse, candy, sweets, comb, brush, bath tub, shower, shampoo, soap, tissue, hands, wash, sledding, healthy snacks, nose, heart, exercise, water, clothes, fruit, vegetable, pop, doctor, nurse, meat, bread, milk, food pyramid
Most of the clip art was from my clip art collection, but a few (steak, lollipop, soda, cake, candy, ice cream, clothes) are from Melonheadz.  She has some awesome freebies at her blog, so make sure to check out that!

Snowman, Winter, Healthy Habits, MLK Cut Apart Sentences

We are still in the process if updating our cut apart sentences and decided to bundle all these together.  During the month of January we have a few mini-themes:  Winter/Snow, Dental Health, Personal Hygiene, and Staying Healthy.  Then you throw Martin Luther King Day in there, too.

In this set will find 9 different thematic cut aparts included:

A snowman is icy and cold.
The snowman had a carrot nose.
Martin Luther King Jr. said, "I have a dream."
Bundle up before you go out to play.
Wash your hands with soap and water.
Brush and floss your teeth every day.
Eat good foods and exercise to keep your heart healthy.
Use soap to wash when you take a bath.
Use a tissue to blow your nose.

Healthy Habits Riddles

Just finished our Healthy Habits Riddles set that we plan to use in the next few weeks.  We will be learning about ways to stay healthy (dental health, personal hygiene, eating healthy, exercise).

If you haven't seen our riddles sets yet, the way you use this with our whole class is by passing the picture cards out to your students as they sit at your carpet.  Read aloud the riddles clues and students have to listen for the clues for their picture.  When they hear their clue they get to bring their picture to you.  Our first graders LOVE these activities.  Some people have said they utilize these type of riddles sets in a center.

Riddles are included for:  tooth, cavity, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, dentist, tooth fairy, kleenex/tissue, bathtub, soap, hands, nose, comb, brush, bed (sleep/rest), apple (healthy snack), sledding (winter exercise)

You can get this HERE at our TPT store.
